The end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century was in the spirit of interesting scientific cooperation between Germany and Russia (Soviet Union).

Among other things, it also led to a number of expeditions to Central Asia, which are summarized in the publication ” Turkestan-Expeditionen. Zur Kulturgeschichte deutscher Forschungsreisen nach Mittelasien (1890-1930)“.

The year 1928, when the largest expedition with the intention of conquering the “roof of the world” was organized, was marked in the memory of the scientific community (not only archeological, but mainly natural science). There were also filmmakers in the generously subsidized expedition, and we can enjoy two films from those pioneering years.
